METER READER – UW I

JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Utility Administrator; responsible for the administration and quality control of all field meter reading procedures. Work in conjunction with the Billing Department to insure all field data is accurate and up to date.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds; pull, push, drag, climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop and bend freely; sit or stand for extended periods of time; work outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather, perform 2-way radio communications; communicate verbally with citizens; ability to walk long distances. Use good judgment when approached by bees, snakes, vicious dogs, and miscellaneous critters while reading/maintaining meters. Write reports by hand; use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly and safely. Also responsible for cleaning, washing, performing preventative maintenance, and servicing equipment and vehicles. Able to operate and secure electronic devices needed to compile essential data for billing operations. Work independently in the absence of specific instructions or supervision. Any other knowledge including but not limited to any duty that may arise in Public Works.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Subject to after hour call out for emergency operations, working holidays, weekend shifts, and mandatory random drug testing. Computer skills including the use of the internet, electronic mail, and the network. Provide services to the general public when emergency conditions warrant it, either in preparation for, or as a reaction to, one or more disastrous events such as: a civil disturbance, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood, ice storm, fire, chemical accident including a hazardous material spill, possible public exposure to hazardous conditions, or other disasters which threaten the safety of the citizens.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:

High School Diploma; plus courses from accredited high school, college or business college; Texas Driver License; Bilingual a plus.
