The mission statement of the Fort Stockton Police Department is to provide a high quality standard of service to the community with integrity and professionalism.  Our duties will be performed in a manner to ensure the safety of all citizens, to safeguard the rights and individual liberties, and to safeguard human dignity of all those we come in contact.

We will, deter crime through a proactive community oriented approach, identifying problems that provide opportunity for criminal action.  We will respond quickly to problems in a cohesive effort with citizens to solve their problems.

Our efforts will work with other organizations in the community to enlighten citizens toward public safety and to enhance the quality of life for our citizens.

Finally, our mission requires that we give attention to activities that effect citizen’s sense of safety and quality of life.  To this end we will maintain order and help facilitate the safe movement of People and traffic through the City.  Personnel and resources will be dedicated and committed to a community oriented problem solving approach to policing with integrity and Professionalism.


The Fort Stockton Police Department expects its personnel to maintain high standards of appearance and conduct.  The public similarly expects such high standards.  Police officers wield considerable power over the citizenry, power that is carefully circumscribed by state and federal law and, ultimately by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Our powers to arrest, seize property and interfere, at times, with the lives of citizens constitute a public trust.  A police officer can help to ensure that the trust is regarded as vital by performing his duties in an exemplary manner.  Performance however, is not enough; we must always conduct ourselves in an exemplary fashion.

The Fort Stockton Police Department is in the process of instituting a new Traffic Compliance and Complaint Program to better serve you. This program is designed to help our officers guide their patrols when they are not responding to calls for service. Your Police Department heavily relies on public trust and information received from its citizens to capture criminals as well as solve and deter crimes. This is in an effort to help enforce traffic and speed laws in areas where residents feel there is a need for more directed patrols to help counter traffic violations that pose a risk to the public’s safety. Please be patient with us as this is a new program we are starting and as with all new programs, there will be issues to work through.
