JOB SUMMARY:

The City of Fort Stockton is seeking a full-time Utility Worker III for the Sanitation Department. Operates residential and commercial refuse trucks on assigned refuse collection routes; performs maintenance, repair, and construction of dumpsters and alleys; participates in all activities, and performs other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Verifies that the necessary materials, tools and equipment are delivered to the work site in an efficient and orderly manner. Confirms that all tools and equipment are maintained in a good and safe working condition. Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Skillfully and safely operates hand tools, axes, air compressors, jackhammers, cutting torches and various weight hammers. Responsible for the safe operation, care and appearance of assigned vehicles and/or equipment, including washing, servicing and preventive maintenance checks. Reads written job instructions, plans, and writes reports by hand. Carry up to 100 pounds and pull, push or drag up to 150 pounds of repair equipment and materials. Climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop and bend freely when performing repairs; sits or stands for extended periods of time; completes reports, participates in repairs. Must be able to hear clearly when working around equipment or in traffic, using proper safety precautions. Work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings and inclement weather; some exposure to dust, fumes and loud noises.

Subject to call out after hours for emergencies. Rotate holidays and weekend shifts. Provide services to the general public when emergency conditions warrant it, either in preparation for, or as a reaction to, one or more disastrous events such as: a civil disturbance, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood, ice storm, fire, chemical accident including a hazardous material spill, possible public exposure to hazardous conditions, or other disasters which threaten the safety of the citizens.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED required; Must possess a valid State of Texas CDL Driver’s License.
